Announcement of retirement of CSPNE's Director of Education

Mr. Simon Fecteau leaves on September 30, 2021

North Bay, Ontario - The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSPNE) officially announces the retirement of Simon Fecteau as its Director of Education, effective September 30, 2021.

Mr. Fecteau was appointed to the role of CSPNE’s Director of Education in May 2015.  It is clear that he has played an important role for public schools and the School Board. 

Let's take a look at his career in the world of education and his many contributions to the French-language public education system.  He began his teaching career in 1992 in Iroquois Falls and then joined the École publique Lionel-Gauthier team in 1994.  A year later, he moved to École publique Renaissance where he occupied several positions of responsibility over the years, including home-room teacher, student council guide, guidance counselor and vice-principal. 

Mr. Fecteau has also been an active contributor to the development of the CSPNE by holding systemic positions as GIARE Officer, Director of Student Achievement for Grades 7-12, Lead of Education Services, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Education.  In 2015, he accepted the position of Director of Education in which he demonstrated great leadership in supporting elected members to develop an effective governance model and providing coaching to staff to ensure the success of each student.  He has also been pivotal in positioning the French-language education system in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada through his involvement, vision and expertise in the educational world.

Mr. Denis Labelle, Chair of the Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario, confirms Mr. Fecteau's exemplary contribution throughout his career.  "On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to acknowledge his commitment and dedication as an educator and administrator as he has greatly contributed to the development of the CSPNE and its schools while prioritizing the learning and success of all students and staff.  Although there are a few months before his departure, we want extend to him our sincerest thanks and wish him the best on his well-deserved retirement!".

Since August 1, Mr. Fecteau has been working closely with Mr. Yves Laliberté, who has been hired as Associate Director of Education, to ensure a smooth transition with regards to respecting the organizational culture of the CSPNE.  Mr. Laliberté will officially succeed Mr. Fecteau on October 1, 2021.

 

In accordance with universal values, the CSPNE covers an area of 46,453 km2 and provides the communities of Timmins, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Temiskaming Shores, Sturgeon Falls, North Bay and Parry Sound with quality French-language education. Close to 2,200 northeastern Ontario students have chosen French-language public schools.
